I don’t really have a sweet tooth. More like a very savory one. However, I tried this recipe and gave it my own twist and I loved it!!! It’s sooooo easy and it looks so pretty! In my version it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly sweet and rich, in spite of the cream. Try it and let me know what you think!
You will need:
- A Triffle bowl (optional, but it looks nice). I got mine at Home Goods for $9.99 (score!)
- About 3 16 oz packages of strawberries
- 3 Tbs of granulated sugar
- 8 vanilla custard pudding cups (I used Snack Pack because they are gluten free)
- 2 packages of ladyfingers (I used Schar ones. Again, gluten free)
- A 16 fl oz of heavy Whipping cream
- 3 Tbs of powdered sugar (you could use more if you want your whipping cream to be really sweet. (This won‘t be.)
- 1 tsp on vanilla extract
- 1 cup of sliced almonds (optional for decoration)
- 1 cup of crushed dry strawberries (optional for decoration)
- Wash and cut about 32 oz of strawberries in small pieces (the amount of two containers). Place them in a bowl and add the granulated sugar. Mix it and save it for later.
- Make the home-made whipping cream: In a bowl pour the heavy whipping cream, the powdered sugar and the vanilla extract. Whip at a high peace until you get the desired consistency. Dip you (clean) finger and try it! It’s soooo worth it. (You can always choose to add more sugar if you like it really sweet.)
- Get the bowl and make the first layer: if you are using regular Ladyfingers, dip them in either milk or chocolate milk, one by one, and arrange them at the bottom of the bowl (you can break them to fit). If you are using the GF Schar ones, skip the dipping because they will get too soggy later. Just place them in the bowl trying to cover all the surface. You will use about ¾ of the first package.
- Pour 4 of the 8 vanilla pudding cups spreading it evenly on top of the Ladyfingers.
- Add a layer of the cut strawberries (about half of the total amount) and spread evenly.
- Add a layer of the home-made whipping cream, spread evenly.
- Repeat steps 3, 4, 5, and 6 ending with a layer of whipping cream.
- For decoration, place the rest of the whole strawberries around the bowl. Or you can cut them in half and place them against the glass, they’ll look like hearts. Make an inner tire of sliced almonds (you can use granola or any nuts you might have. This will give it a nice crunchy texture). Finally, make an inner circle with the crushed dry strawberries. Or….you can get creative!
- Cover the bowl and keep it in the refrigerator until dessert time.
- Enjoy!
